I just don't think they wanted to play in the 'my machine is
cheaper than yours'. The BetaMax evolved to the BetaCam and
became the standard for remote news gathering and production in TV
studios.
When I worked in a recording studio we had some of the condensor
mikes that were wonderful - and became rare and costly.
My ED-Beta's rival DVD's in resolution, but they fail in the
noise category - and that's all a problem with any analog system -
as the media will affect the content. It's a basic law of physics.

And before pro-digital went to the small HD saving devices, Sony
had a monster 24/32 track reel-reel digital machine, that when
fitted with Apogee filters came in close to $200,000.

I've seen so many great ideas come and go, and some barely a blip
in my memory map, I'll just wait to see what comes out. I've been
an electronics type junkie since I was a kid.
