Wow! It's great to hear there will be lots of CHOICE for me, the
consumer! First off, I CHOOSE to play the disc at high-def resolution
through analog connectors -- or through DVI to a digital device
without HDCP.

What?!? I can't do that?? But that's what I CHOOSE! I have CHOICES!

Oh, well. That's OK, I guess. I was going to buy another $5000 TV
again this year. After all, it's already been two years since I bought
the last one.

Hmm... OK. Back to my CHOICE:

I CHOOSE to make a backup of my purchased disc, as is my right under
copyright law. Should be easy; it's my right under law. Just remove
the copy protection, and... WHAT?!? Removing the copy protection to
make a personal backup is ILLEGAL?? I didn't CHOOSE that! Not my
CHOICE!

Getting a bit miffed. But that's OK; at least I'll now be able to
CHOOSE to watch a disc from Europe in my North American player. Just
pop it in, and.. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!? I can't play discs from
other geographical regions in my top-of-the-line, $1500 player?? Why
not? That's what I CHOOSE to do!

I'm no cynic, but I'm beginning to think Blu-Ray's Java bells and
whistles are the industry's CHOICE for distracting consumers from just
how little CHOICE they actually have in how to use and view content
that they purchase!
