John, try copying the vob files to hard disk and rename them as m mpg file.
This does assume that the video you want is in a single vob file otherwise
you may have to join them.
I've jsut tried this on a family DVD I created earlier and was able to
import it into Premier.
***FYI The current version of premier elements (2.0?) can import vob files
directly.***
