Hi,
In another thread ('DVD recorder, does this spec exist?') I was informed
that I can adjust the overscan on my 32 inch widescreen Sony TV (model
KD32DC11) by entering the service menu (if anyone has the service manual
for this TV or could point me to relevant info. that would be greatly
appreciated).
I'd like to know what the implications of removing all overscan on my TV
are. I'm most concerned about movies, 90% of what I watch are DVD movies
and I have become increasingly aware and frustrated that I'm losing part
of the picture to overscan. If I turn all overscan off (is it as simple as
setting a value to zero?) what will that actually do when watching DVD
movies of various aspect ratios and what about when watching TV especially
since I'm watching digital TV which is broadcast in different aspect
ratios as well? Finally my Sony TV has aspect ratio mode settings, these
are, '4:3', '14:9', 'wide', 'zoom', and 'smart', what are the implications
of using these modes after I've turned overscan off / down to zero?
Sorry to ask so many questions, I understand what overscan is and why TVs
have it, I'm just not at all sure what the implications of removing it are.

PS. In case it makes a difference I'm in the UK, and the TV can play NTSC
and PAL though 95% of my DVDs are PAL.
