You can pick up a stand alone DVD burner for under a $100 at discount
stores, or a DVD burner for your computer for under $60. If you started
with MiniDV tape and transferred to DVD, it would be much better than if
you used any combination of VHS/8mm/Hi8 or any other analog material.
The quality difference between starting with an analog tape and
transferring to VHS and starting with MiniDV tape then transferring to
VHS would be noticeable to most people.
Having a light built into the camera would give you better color quality
than night vision. But it's only for fill light, as the main source of
light they aren't much.
One advantage some night vision cameras have, if it's like my Digital8
Sony, is it can see through clothing. Especially like at a beach where
swimsuits tend to be thin and wet. But I doubt your church would
encourage that.
