Well for a long time for me it was that way, since I owned a 1996 mac
until last year when I bought an ibook G4.
I could not find hardware, except via the Internet, since my mac was a
old serial/SCSI beast.

I see no indication of this being a DVD burner

CD-RW 32X
I have a CD burner in my ibook, but it cant burn DVD's.
