Inferior to Premiere? Not a chance :-)
Vegas just has a different way of doing things.
Incidentally, it does work trying to grab a timeline fade in the corner of
clip.
Move your cursor up to the very top left or right of the clip. You'll see
the "box" change to a quarter moon shape. That's when you drag it one way
or the other. Make sure you don't accidentally drop it down though or
you'll lower the opacity at the same time.
