This has been a useful thread for me. I have had such good results with
consumer grade tape that I have no hesitation continuing to use it for all
purposes. My recent experience with a dropout, after going through hundreds
of 60 minute tapes error free, has convinced me to be more diligent about
reviewing footage for which I have no alternatives --- important interviews,
etc. This was a process that we did routinely in the analogue days. Now,
I'll do it selectively.
