 JVC made a big splash when it introduced the DV500, the first 3 x 1/2"
 CCD camcorder in its price range and with so many higher-end features.
 The GY-DV5000 has also been very successful.  True, many of the buyers
 have been event videographers and those who either don't mind or prefer
 a larger unit but overall the picture quality is a little better on the
 DV500.  It also has the flexibility of lenses and if you go up to the
 550, studio configurations.   Some people simply prefer the look of the
 170.  I encourage you to do a side-by-side comparison if you can and
 see which you prefer.
