According to UK based XTN Data, a market watcher in the UK,
the Russian MP3 sales site, www.allofmp3.com was second
in popularity among users of portable digital devices only to
Apple's iTunes.
Unlike the latter, Allofmp3 charges by the megabyte - a 4 minute
song will run around $0.11. They also offer various format and
bitrate options, none with DRM. They have been targeted in the
past by various industry organizations that have attempted to
get them shut down, without any success. They are completely
legal under Russian law, but using the site in the US could
constitute infringement, even though it is extremely unlikely
that there is anything they could to users in the US or other
countries without first getting the Russian government to
toughen their copyright laws.
