When was the last time you are CD or DVD's that gave a life span? This was
only done during the early days of CD-R technology, back when there were 1X
drives. Manufacturers quickly found out that the discs don't came close to
lasting that long and so stopped marketing them with a life span.
The only brand I know of now that states a life span is the Delkin Archival
Gold. CD-R 300 years and DVD-R 100 years, but as far as I can tell these are
very unique discs. The writing layer is gold (real gold) and they have an
added protective anti-scratch layer that other discs don't have. Does this
and the high price mean they will last 300 and 100 years? I doubt it. Will
they last longer than standard burnable discs I bet they will. How long is
really anyone's guess.
