I don't by the maturity part. DVD's are almost 6 years old for consumer
burning give or take a little bit. I do by this for dual layer discs which
are proving to be a nightmare beyond compare for me.
As for complexity, well that maybe however if the data is written correctly
then the data should stay written correctly. The only thing that can go
wrong after the data is written correctly is if the disc craps out. I think
the life span has more to do with poor quality discs than how the data is
written. Otherwise we would see such problems with 160k floppy discs being
better and more reliable than 1.44MB discs simply because the data is
written in a more complex fashion.
I think 90% of the time when you buy a blank DVD to burn on you aren't
getting a quality disc even when you spend a lot for it.
