I've pretty much collected all of the music I've ever wanted that was
otherwise available off-line. Getting the music isn't really the
problem - it's finding new music to want that's the trick. In NYC,
there are no full-time broadcast radio stations dedicated to airing new
music - the others have either gone the urban hip-hop, Latin, ACHR,
classic rock or talk format. (Die K-Rock, Die!!!!!!!!!!), or airs from
small stations that are hard to pick up.
In its heyday, broadcats radio in NYC had alternative stations, and
even those statiosn had specialty shows like "The Buzz", "Out of Order"
or "Solid State". The only new music played in NYC now, it seems, is
on "Out of the Box" and Steven Van Zandt's "Underground Garage" -
ironically running back-to-back on a classic rock station. It seems
that new music exists only on internet radio...
