Update -
In playing with this I note it is not so much balance as it is
off-axis-vertical, when it is up or down more than about 10 degrees (really
guessing here) it will drift towards center - if up or down more than that
it has to be held in position. If I turn steadyshot off and move it SLOW it
will almost come to a dead stop horizontally On the other hand, it has
almost no starting friction which I have read is a problem with the 501
Bogen.. From the pictures, this looks like a SILK tripod (each leg has 2
points of connection to the head).
