Not recommended. People who have done it are
generally disappointed in retrospect and regret the choice.
You are not the first person to ask this question. The Google
newsgroup archives will reveal previous discussions.

Sure, if you go direcctly to HD formats, but NTSC and PAL
retain their original pixel dimensions and frame rates, etc.

Which is a strange thing considering that both NTSC and PAL
camcorders are made in the same factories and the basic cost
of production is likely identical.
