Need Recommendation for DVD Burning Software

Posted by Hunt on 05/20/06 18:19

I've just gotten and installed Adobe Production Studio on a new (WinXP-Pro)
workstation, and now have a question. While I will be using Encore for DVD
authoring, I have yet to install any CD/DVD burning software for the day-to-
day tasks of archiving, etc. I have Roxio and Nero, which came with the two
DVD players in the machine (Plextor & LG), plus Memorex DL-DVD/CD FW-400 and
HP DVD/CD USB. The Memorex came with DVD/CD program, Nero IIRC, and HP has
their own, but I'm not sure on which it is based - clunky interface. I own
Nero 6.6 Ultra, and several older versions of Roxio. I used to use Adaptec,
now Roxio, liked the old interface, but noticed that each version seemed to
get less stable. Also, Roxio doesn't seem to want to "play nice" with many
other programs.

I can go the upgrade route from some of the programs that I already have, buy
new stand-alone, or use the included utilities, but want to get some ideas on
the best program(s), especially ones that will not muck up Encore. I know that
the software from the HP will not work if any other DVD utility is on the
machine, and I hate its interface, so I consider it OUT.

I've read the archives of this, and other NG's, and have seen a ton of
discussion on both the Nero and Roxio products, but nothing addresses working
with Encore installed.

DVD "authoring" is fairly new to me, though I've been burning CD/DVD's since
the Adaptec days - struggling to find a really good program. What are the
thoughts of the subscriber-base? I'm not looking for freeware, but would like
this software to be somewhat budget conscious, as I just spent a ton of $ on
Adobe. I don't have to go any upgrade route, and don't mind a new stand-alone,
but one that will work with Encore. What is currently the best?

Thank you for your time and your thoughts. I have X-posted to the two groups
that I think might offer the best information. I did this to keep the thread
intact for such time as the input might benefit someone else in time to come.
I hope that this is not a problem.

Hunt
