that's what we seen too Martin Heffels when we finally did our in depth
research too. six private shops who had a combined total of 27 mac's and
FCP all switched to pc's and two thirds went to avid software while the
others use either premier or just some audio programs. but more importantly
to us they moved away from apple, mac, digidesign, which was also what we
would do within weeks of our investigations. one guy put it this way, which
we resounded, "we need to get into something where we don't have to listen
to a manufacturer for support, but where the largest majority of the market
is and we want to be." that was the teeton for me. i wanted the same
thing. thus, when my son came up with his article, we bought our solution
without so much as ONE CALL to a vendor. we bought based on users, not
sales people, and not on recommendations from manufacturers . . USERS . .
and . . it worked, or should i say WORKS! and as i've said before, we are
glad that the stations and some other studios have apple/macs, because we
get their work when they crash and when they can't do stuff in time or too
challenging and we can. you see, when we get challenged with some project,
there's millions and millions of people out there with pc's AND avid
products that can help us instead of being in this tiny box screaming for
help and can only get it from a small group of proud wanna be differents.
RESULT! that has been our summary to this terrible but resolving
experience.
hope this helps some others who are trying to decide and/or are also
struggling with issues that seem unresolvable. get help from where there is
more help available and not from stores, sales people, or manufacturers.
with avid, we've never so much as spoken to a techy yet. sure at
conferences, like in vegas at NAB a few weeks ago, but that was just in
passing of time. our support has come from USERS. and i repeat this often
because it is a resounding message to myself as much as our story, find a
large group of USERS for support for there you'll find the good and the bad
in a software and computer, not from sales people or manufacturers who have
a "BEST INTEREST" in your decision.
