You can also use iTunes to transfer music files to a Palm PDA. Certainly MP3
format, probably OGG too, and as there's a Palm player that supports AAC,
(the non-DRM version of) AAC too.

iTunes does not lock you to the iPod. It certainly works *better* with the
iPod, but it still works with other devices.
