No one suggested you shouldn't improve the experience.

Thats your opinion and one that isnt shared by other manufactures,
else they would have introduced their own variation, but one that you
are entitled to nonetheless.

You are taking it too personally. When I was looking to buy, the
Philips was a candidate. Since I wasnt wall mounting, I thought of
this as just stray light and unwanted. You (I think) have said it
helps to improve contrast and deepen blacks. I prefer this to be done
by the set and not something that is Psuedo. My Panny 42PX60 does this
out of the box. That is preferable to me.

Each to their own. Picture quality is the benchmark I look for. In
your viewings, did it include the PX60? I would be very suprised if
you think the Philips beats the Panny.
