The required licences for making a HD DVD-Video disc are:
HD DVD-ROM (I)
HD DVD-Video (I)
License Fees are $10,000 for each. So $20,000 total.
A hybrid DVD/HD-DVD disc also requires licensing for DVD-ROM (I), and
DVD-Video (I). So that's an additional $20,000, although most
manufacturers will already be licensed to make DVD-Video discs.
The license seems to be good for 5 years, or currently from 2005-2009.
In comparison, a license for Blu-Ray Disc Media has a 5-year term and costs
$15,000. So actually a savings of $5,000 for a manufacturer of Blue-Ray
over HD DVD.
