Yes it is a dumb idea. Why would you want to go through so much trouble
when you can get professional quality mini-DV cameras out there today
for just a few bucks. You can get used Panasonic, or Cannon cameras and
get better quality picture and optics than you will going through all
this trouble. Also cameras are not made to be used as decks. The
manufaturers actually don't recomend it. They actually tell you to not
do much fast forwarding or rewinding because it clogs up your heads.
They actually recommend you record and pop the tape into a real dec or
into a pc. Many years ago I used a camera as a dec because I couldn't
afford a dec at that time, and my camera heads got worn quickly. Now I
do everything in a pc, its quicker and easier. Get yourself a used 3
chip mini-dv it's better.
