I agree - HD hasn't done anything to excite me. I won't go that way
until my current telly and player break down and that's assuming the HD
stuff is as cheap as, or completely replaced, non-HD.
You've also got to consider the movies - how many early DVD releases
were as bad as or worse than VHS? Quite a few, I seem to remember. Only
the latest cutting edge stuff will benefit from HD, IMO. I expect a glut
of "no better than DVD", back catalogue stuff, to add confusion and
dilute the concept. It'll be back to the days of carefully checking
reviews, to make sure a disc is *really* worth the investment.
I probably will go for a higher capacity storage medium for my PC,
because I can fill DVD's all too easily. I'd likely prefer BR, because
I'd like to try an alternative, instead of sticking with something
that's been less than perfect. Price (for both media and the drive) will
still likely be the deciding factor, though.
FWIW, I think the guy slagging blu-ray gave himself away as a console
fantwat when he mentioned Microsoft releasing a HD-DVD drive (which, of
course, is for the XBox 360) and slated the PS3 for being "too
expensive".
