After takin' a swig o' grog, Larry Qualig belched out this bit o' wisdom:

I generally agree with Larry here.  Think how long it has/is taken from 
DVD formats to shake out, and we still have minor various (and also 
double-layer writable) churning away. 
 
It will take even longer with HD.
