I realize this is a bit late, but just spotted it. Much as I hate to
admit to being so stupid, I found the reason my player was giving me
that message was that I had not "finalized" the DVD from my separate
recorder!! And I had given some DVDs I created with that recorder and
later copied over with the computer, and they failed to play for the
person I gave them too. Only recently did I realize all had never
been "finalized". My recorder had this command well hidden deep
inside the manual and the menues.

Just a possibility.
