Vegas has become very popular among higher-end independent 
videographers.  I would call it a cult-like following including some 
very respected industry professionals.  However, it still trails FCS by 
leaps and bounds and has never made inroads into facilities who 
generally stick with FCS or Avid. 
 
It's really a matter of comparing everything feature-for-feature but 
overall, the advantage of a Mac is going to be a richer feature set for 
the money, greater pool of available support from a much larger 
installed user base and in general, a lower rate of repairs (based on 
annual statistics).  You probably get a lot more bang for the buck but 
I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about Vegas.
