And, there is this odd looking device

whose specs are not quite as good as Zentronic, but it is in
stock according to this supplier.
I've already retired my Buffalo LT, having opted to return to
direct display from a networked PC rather than linking to it.
No questions about 1080p, interfaces, scaling, zooming,
cropping, media types, codecs, sub-titles, player limitations or
remotes. Watch, capture, and time shift TV; archive shows in
the terabytes; and of course play DVDs as well. The Buffalo was
quite a disappointment, in comparison.
I don't know whether we'll be able to play commercial HD movie
discs in our PCs at any time in the foreseeable future but,
if/when we can, it might be fairly simple to add the drive -
hopefully in replacement of a DVD-ROM drive. Meantime, I'll
pass on suffering the slings and arrows of the new media wars.
