The distribution of mass is pretty much equal throughout
the length of the tripod whereas a steadicam-like gadget
has the mass of the camera at one end and the counter-
balance at the other end. You can't really grab a tripod
at any point along its length (unless it is really twinky).
I've tried both and definitely prefer the steadicam clone.
