Feature film editing with Premiere Pro?

Posted by Drew on 07/18/06 18:19

As you might've seen in an adjacent thread, I'm getting ready to edit a
low-budget feature film, to be shot on the JVC GY-HD100 at 720/24p.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Premiere Pro should be the best-supported JVC
HDV NLE. But even though I grew up on Premiere, I couldn't help
thinking about Cold Mountain and FCP four years ago... nobody that I
know uses Premiere or takes it seriously.

1. Do you think PPro2 can handle a feature film well? My concerns are
mainly logging database features (Adobe Bridge looks interesting -
better than Avid's database features?); speed & efficiency; advanced
trims; and EDLs exchange.

2. Adobe's web site claims that 2.0 "works with popular HDV-format
cameras and VTRs." Is AspectHD still needed?

3. How is the long-GOP handled with and without AspectHD?

4. Can you implement this workflow without any special graphics card?

Thanks in advance,
Drew
