Hi Dads.
Still living in the age of Alexander Graham B., I see. 'Twas indeed a
kindler gentler age.
However:
Try to imagine that this phone does not need one to spin the crank and
yell into the mouthpiece..."HELLO, MABLE?? Get me the new Thom Yorke
Empeethree please."
Try also to get rid of the idea you may have of someone walking around
with a large black two-ended apparatus held up to their ear.
Try to imagine that someone has figured out that the cell phone that has
become such an ubiquitous accessory already has much of the electronics
inside it that are needed for turning stored mp3 files back into
listenable music.
Try to then imagine that the same bright person who realized this, also
conceived of using earphones plugged into said cell phone as a way of
delivering said aural experience to the user's ears.
You may then see that it is not so much "walking around listening to a
phone" as using one piece of equipment to do multiple jobs, a piece of
equipment that was already being carried around rather than carrying a
second piece of equipment.
Probably the next step will be competing providers offering competing
units of various manufacture that play various and sundry different
formats. The service they offer is all virtually the same so it has
become a market driven by bells & whistles rather than the actual
providing of service.
As always, the early adopters will have to make do with what is available
at this time while paying the early adopter premium; a strange phenomenon
that has become an accepted part of the electronic and technology
industry's marketing practices.
HTH, HAND.
