I also don't burn at full speed...

I'm hoping the laser will last longer, and less heat is built up in the
drive...
The fast burn speed you use, the more power the laser must put out to
burn a given area that is passing by faster, and the laser running at full
power creates alot of heat...I typically burn my audio CD's at 24x, not
40x...

While it's frustrating to throttle back the burn speed on DVD's because
of the time involved, I'm not a factory cranking out disks, so the
occassional
DVD I burn can be long and slow for all that it matters in my daily life...
