Thank you, Cathy and NRen2k5, for your suggestion... dBpowerAMP worked
quite well for me. I got it to upsample the files from 11.025kHz up
to16kHz (with a not-too-substantial increase in size) which the
Creative Zen Micro can handle.
BTW, I couldn't get the the dBpowerAMP to use the 'average bitrate' or
'variable bitrate' options in the advanced options. I get the following
error:
The CODEC required to compress 'f:\blah.mp3' could not be opened.
Error creating mp3 compressor, try different encoding frequency and
bitrates.
Do I need to install some codecs for this, or what? It's not really
important (as I don't expect to be doing it a lot of the time) but
still would be handy to know.
