I have not been using the Sony HC1, but I have been using the Sony FX-1
which is a higher quality HDV camera with 3 CCD imagers. The captured video,
when processed with Vegas 6 (latest version) does not show any change of
quality after editing, so long as the output is rendered to HDV 1080i format
(as opposed to downsampling it to DVD format). Also, if effects, filters,
transitions, etc. are applied to the original video capture during the Vegas
editing process, the image can and will be affected, in some cases to cause
degradation. This is true of any editing process. There is, also,
conversely, the situation where the edited video can look better than the
original, and thus the quality is "improved". I am referring to situations
where noise has been removed, color / contrast / brightness / etc. have been
corrected, etc.
