Hey, all.
I have an Oppo 971 player, and I'm using HDMI.
When I was using component on my previous players, I had to tell the TV
the aspect ratio to use - my TV (52" Toshiba Rear Projection) has a few
settings for dealing with 4:3 vs 16:9 etc.
This was one extra step that I'd prefer not to have had to do, but now
I find that I sometimes _want_ to change the aspect ratio. For DVD
movies it's great, as the TV locks into the correct aspect for the DVD
- but for recorded TV shows, I would like to be able to control the
aspect, and I cannot. - Nor do I see any way in the player to do the
same.
My TV's way of dealing with 4:3 is to stretch the image horizontally,
*very* slightly in the middle, and more along the sides - this makes
the stretching effect less noticeable, as your attention is usually
focused more in the middle of the screen.
Anyone else have an Oppo player and find this same issue? Or better
yet, a way of dealing with it that doesn't involve a second player
stuck into the component inputs on the TV?
