Actually, they can place up to twelve Std NTSC signals into one
standard 6Mhz wide channel slot. But that is for cable and satellite.
TV broadcasters are currently ANALOG. HDTV only fits like... one.
It is digital, and even compressed, it is a pretty large datagram.

The HDTV broadcasts won't be run that way. It is just like the
regular broadcasts. Channel (your ch # here) VHF and their companion
UHF channel if it exists. EMPTY channel slots on the standard VHF and
UHF bands can be bought up by a given "station" and used, like PBS
typically does so often, but each channel only carries ONE program.
