 I used to employ a similar technique to get hard disks spinning again.
 Back in the Good Old Days, the heads would stick in the parking zone
 and the disk would not spin up. I would lift the front of the desktop
 computer about 6 inches and let it fall to the desk. That would
 usually free up the heads enough to let the disk spin. Worked every
