Not possible.
1) You have to break the copy protection scheme. There are no standalones
that can do this because it's illegal.
2) You cant fit 8 gigs of data on to a 4 gig DVD-R.
If 'your friend' needs backup copies of his DVD's, teach him how to properly
handle them so he won't need backups, or just have him buy a 2nd copy of the
DVD since they are so cheap.
