Ask for people to review your music in forums and give reviews back.
This may sound "spammy" but it isn't if done correctly. It's a
gesture that is win-win. By participating in message boards and on
other artist's pages where reviews can be given and elsewhere, not
only are you being exposed to a wider world of music and ideas, but you
are possibly starting a conversation with someone that could be a good
music (business) friend down the road. Also, you are spreading your
music link (branding your music name) in your signature around and most
people will probably return the favor and give you feedback on your
work you may not have otherwise considered.
The best reviews are honest, constructive, and midlevel. Never bash,
say what you did and/or didn't like. If you thought something
wasn't right, back up what you say with WHY you are saying it. If
it's not your cup of tea, be graceful. If it's the bomb, say so
without overflurishing it, then move on. This is so that you are
building up your own creditability to be giving reviews. You are
learning to talk-the-talk.
