I love it when I see this kind of post. It reminds me of how much I
appreciate Apple's exclusion of resellers from education sales.
I respectfully offer another alternative.
Pro Video Resellers offer an added measure of service and support - at
least good ones do. You should strongly consider purchasing from one.
We specialize in building systems such as this so you aren't on your
own and we do the work for you and help you troubleshoot any problems
instead of leaving you to fend for yourself.
As a pro video reseller, we can offer your computer at a comparable
cost delivered and you won't have to take the time to register or pay
to become a "student." We do not charge sales tax most of the time.
While student software is cheaper, it is not upgradeable. So when the
next big revision comes out you get to register for a class again and
buy your software anew instead of just upgrading. The bargain then
magically vanishes and in the long run, you end up paying much more.
If you decide to go with such a system (which is a good viable
alternative) I hope you'll consider purchasing it from a pro video VAR
rather than doing the temporary education dance.
