I can register at my local CC, in 15 minutes or less, on line for $50.

I was wrong by $99. Apple's web site currently lists the upgrade to the
latest version of Final Cut Studio at $699, not $600.

The current price for Final Cut Studio (Academic Version) is $699 which
is exactly the same price for the upgrade.
