MPEG-4 AACs (or any older MPEG audio, including MPEG-2 AAC and MP3)
can be in the MP4 wrapper.

I agree, LAME VBR is just as good at higher (e.g. 200 Kbps) bit rate
files, and it's easier to play in many respects. Why change from
something so ideal.
