I find removing safety measures a very bad idea. I am sure you will have
seen a quartz bulb burst, and then what the blazing hot glass will do to
the carpet you're on. Now imagine that happening to a talent instead of the
carpet, and you're doomed.
Either leave the glass, or install a light scrim (as you suggested the less
dense ones won't cut the light down that much), but don't play with safety.
