I've disabled auto actions on optical devices, so I experienced
no such problems with this or other titles. I'd rented "DV
Code" from Netflix and got a day-one, clean copy. I fail to
recall whether it was a custom Netflix disc, though. I play
everything from a PC to a 42" 1080p monitor using either VLCMP
or MPC. There were at least 5 points in the playback where the
a/v either froze or broke up briefly. After the third such
occurrence, I switched software players and resumed from just
prior to the last glitch, it was repeatable. We managed to
watch the entire film anyway. No point in complaining - the
flick wasn't very good and these glitches may have actually
added to its entertainment value as unplanned opportunities for
refills!

Whether or not the DVD contains navigation problems for software
players which would not be encountered on firmware players, I've
no idea - but I doubt it. I encountered a similar problem with
a purchased DVD some time ago when using a stand-alone player
which made it a bitch to navigate around the hang-ups. At least
with the "DV Code" snags the software players handled it in
stride and maintained a/v synch.

I see that another respondent played a rental copy on his PC
without incident, so my experience is probably peculiar to that
disc or the batch from which it came?
