Rod, I think the key word here is "performers". Some of these people have
egos the size of houses and *do not* want their _performance_ messed up
under any circumstance or they'll be the laughing-stock of the industry.
In my experience, when some big-name musician uses a track, it usually shows
their lack of trust in:
a) The reliability of the sound system.
b) The acoustics of the venue
c) The ability of the sound guy
d) Their own ability to do the performance and hang onto the mic at the same
time, and
e) Their own voice talent particularly after an extended period of drunken
revelry the night before... ;-)
Come to think of it, they're pretty much the same reasons why "live"
television broadcasts aren't actually live anymore.
