 If I were you, I'd get a stable 1k tone and set the meter just under
 the unity mark, or so that the level LED is just under the point where
 it's lit.
 
 THEN I would run a bunch of program content with varying audio levels:
 quiet, loud, in between, and average the level so that the loudest
 possible sounds just barely touch the unity mark (or just barely
 trigger the LED). If you're not using a compressor just before the
 audio input on the mod, you should.
 
 What manufacturer of mod, Cadco? Who's your carrier, Comcast? They
 should have a field tech who can help.
