It would be justified if the event was packaged and advertised as "lip
synch performance by blah blah--" Come and see blah blah pretend to
sing in front of a live audience. Applaud the recording device! Ask
the computer come out for an encore!
People (or sponsors) pay a very good dollar to see live "performances".
I honestly don't think it imposes too onerous a burden on a performer
to actually perform the song.
