So where do we draw the line on abiding or not abiding by the laws we
don't like.

My first response to this thread was directed to people who copy our
videos in their entirety and then give them away to their friends or
worse yet, sell bootleg copies.
I have caught a couple of the latter in my career and sent my lawyer
after them.
Some of the ones who just give our stuff away have tried to tell me it
is good for my business by giving me more exposure hence my comment of
BULLSHIT!
Screw the exposure and publicity, if you intend to take my stuff in
it's entirety then you can damn well pay me for it.

I recently had an incident where someone uploaded about 4 minutes of
my video on a site similar to Youtube. I contacted her directly and
educated her re: copyright laws. In this case it really was ignorance
on her part that she needed my permission to post our footage.
I told her it was fine with me if she left it up provided she credited
me as the source of the footage. She agreed to this but actually took
the entire site down about 2 days later.

Yes, I agree that Youtube has created a wonderful position for
themselves. They don't police the uploads and take no responsibility
for anything posted.
