In the movie "The Queen", Tony Blair is heard to utter plaintively,
"will somebody please step in and save these Royals from themselves...."

Some days I think the media should just give all the copyright holders
out there exactly what they ask for and take down all the copyrighted
material, take it off the air, off TV, off the internet. In fact, they
should refuse to pay to broadcast ANYTHING other than material freely
submitted by independent artists who want the exposure, or their own
staff writers and videographers and musicians.

Oh my god-- no Celine Dion on the radio anymore? The horror!

There would be a bruising year or two of losses, and then the public
would adopt an entirely new generation of artists who, eureka, discover
that it is good and profitable to let the public see and hear and--
gasp-- copy your work.

When diesel trains were introduced, didn't the unions try to insist that
the stokers and firemen keep their jobs?
