I have an old cheap 5" Initial dvd player I bought probably back in
2002 (model # DVD-5820). We really only use it on trips to keep our 4
year-old entertained, but I noticed a few times we tried to use it to
watch dvd's I recorded off the dvd recorder using blank dvd-r's that
they wouldn't play on this player. It just hangs there on
"loading". I figured since the unit is kind of old that maybe the
unit doesn't support Dvd-r, but according to some customer reviews I
see on Amazon, some people can play dvd-rs on theirs but it may depend
on the manufacturer. Can someone educate me as to whether this makes
any sense? Can the manufacturer of the dvd really make a difference
on whether a certain player can play it or not? We are in the market
now for a newer portable player. With the newer models, is this still
an issue, or should I be okay as long as the specs say it will play
dvd-r discs?
