==========
CDEx can convert from APE to mp3 on the fly, that is, the conversion from APE to Wav and
from Wav to mp3 are transparent to the user. Use the drop-down menu option to "Re-Encode
Compressed Audio File(s)", not the option to "Convert Compressed Audio File(s) to WAV
file(s)".
In WinAmp, go to [Options]->[Preferences]->[Plug-ins]->[Output]. Remember which one it is
currently using (waveOut or DirectSound). Highlight 'Nullsoft Disk Write plug-in" and
click the [Configure] button below. Select an output directory. Tick 'Conversion to
format' and make your sound selection: MPEG Layer-3 44,100Hz Stereo and the bitrate you
want. Exit configuration and Play files you want to covert. The Play action then
converts your APE file to mp3 and write it to disk. When finished, remember to access
your output plug-in setting and change it back to whatever you had before, or WinAmp will
keep on converting anything you play next.
