 Since the firewire implementations are simply chips on a board, with the
 designs mostly right off of the manufacturer's data sheets the  best way to
 determine if a card will work is to check the firewire chipset. I trust
 those from TI and the NEC chips. The OXFORD 911 is also known to be a good
 device.
 
 The OHCI drivers are part of the OS.
